BRUT SHOE

A shoe built as a single wedge of mass. The upper is one block, ribbed like a cast panel, cut open at the top by an oval hole the foot drops into. The heel steps down in two flat tiers to the ground, and a bank of deep louvres runs across the toe like a vent. Nothing on it bends. It was drawn as a building first and a shoe second — every surface is flat or a fixed ledge, so the only soft thing is the moulded pocket inside where the foot sits. A taller version pushes the same block up the calf and presses a bare footprint into the outer wall. These are working renders, not a finished pair. They sit in the Brut family beside the shades and the case, and stopped at the study.
