DECONSTRUCTION OF AN ENTITY

A figure lies across the sheet and comes apart as it goes, the lower half breaking into a spray of separate dots until there is nothing left to hold an outline. Sodium hypochlorite — household bleach — drawn onto black paper with brush, dropper and bare hand. The bleach lifts the dye out of the sheet rather than adding anything to it, so every mark arrives pale gold and none of them can be taken back. A line keeps spreading after the hand has left, which means the drawing finishes itself. Titled DECONSTRUCTION OF AN ENTITY. Nothing here was erased — with bleach that is not possible. The body loses its edges because the marks that would have held them were simply never made.
