RED DAO

One printed shell, no upper

A pair of red monoblock sneakers floating heel-to-heel on a pale grey background, showing the ribbed cage upper and the lobed outsole
RED DAO is a low slip-on runner with no separate upper. One shell carries everything — a ribbed cage that wraps the foot, long slotted openings down the midfoot, straps that cross the instep and grow straight out of the surface rather than being threaded through it, and a lobed outsole that reads as the same body seen from underneath. The shoe is drawn as a single part, so every opening in the cage is doing work. The gaps are where material was taken out for weight and flex; the ribs are where it was left in for structure. There is no lining, no tongue and no lacing hardware, because there is no second piece to fix them to. It sits in the footwear line as a 2023 monoblock study. The shell was rendered across a wide colour range and in a printed-prototype finish; red is the one the project takes its name from.
