ANALOG PRINTER

One wide black sheet, printed by hand

A wide black sheet filled edge to edge with pale gold marks: standing figures, a dog, plates and diagrams, coiled spirals, invented tools and rows of tally marks
The left third of the sheet: a standing figure, a dog with a scorched body, ruled diagrams and a bright spill at the bottom
The left third. A figure, a dog, and a spill that was left to run.

A single wide sheet of black paper filled corner to corner in pale gold. There is no composition holding it together and no gap left anywhere: standing figures, a dog, a plate with something coming off it, stacked forms, coiled spirals, small framed diagrams, tools that do not exist, tally marks, a chair.

It reads the way a page comes out of a machine — everything arriving at once, in one pass, in the same ink, with no hierarchy between a figure and a diagram. That is where the name comes from. The machine is a hand and a bottle of bleach; the colour is not added, it is the black paper lifted back to gold and it cannot be undone.

The right third of the sheet: coiled spirals, a plate seen in perspective, a small standing figure and a burst of crossed lines
The right third. The spirals are drawn, the blooms are not.
