VISITOR

The one who has just come in, and everyone who was already there

The sheet close up: a warm ochre ground heavy with pale flecks, a low dark horizon of spires and masts, small seated figures scattered below it, and one much larger figure at the bottom left with its back turned

A low horizon runs across the middle of the sheet — a row of spires and masts against a sky that darkens almost to black in the corner. Pale spots fall through it like snow, or sparks.

Framed. Espronceda, Barcelona, November 2020.

Below the horizon the ground is nearly empty. A handful of small figures sit far apart on it: one on a low platform, one on a chair, one with an arm lifted. They have been there a while.

At the bottom left, close to the front and several times their size, one more figure stands with its back turned, half sunk into the ground it is standing on. It is the only one that has just arrived.

Shown framed under glass at Espronceda, Barcelona, in November 2020, alongside works made across several years.
