Three panels, one gesture each

Three small white panels mounted in a row on a black board, each carrying one thin black line and a scatter of red marks.
The same three seen from one end, the board running away at an angle so the panels line up in perspective.
Seen along the board.

Acrylic on canvas and wood panel, 20,5 by 43 centimetres, 2020. The smallest of the thirteen paintings made that year in Barcelona, and the only one that is a triptych.

The presentation plate: the mounted triptych floated on a pale field with the title, city, medium and size printed in small type beneath.
THREE SEQUENCES OF MOVEMENT, acrylic on canvas and wood panel, 20,5 x 43 cm. Plate captioned Barcelona, 2020.

Three small white panels mounted in a row on a black board. Each holds one thin black line travelling across it with red marks placed along the way, and the three are not the same: the middle panel gathers its red into a dense cluster where the other two keep theirs sparse. Read left to right they are three ways the same hand can cross a small distance.

The first of the three panels: a long black curve crossing the sheet, a row of red dashes, a red bar low left
The first panel, on its own.

Being mounted together on one board is part of it. The black surround holds the three at a fixed rhythm, so the eye moves between them at a set pace rather than wandering, which is what turns three drawings into one work about movement.

The second panel: a black and red knot at the top, red dots scattered below it, a red streak along the bottom
The second. The knot is the loudest thing in the set.

The first two pictures are the panels on their board in the studio in July 2020. The last is the presentation plate, with the title and the size printed beneath.

The third panel: a black loop falling from a red mark at the top, two black lozenges and a red disc at the right
The third, and the quietest.

His own folder carries an earlier title for the same three panels: DANCE OF ELEMENTS.
