CARNET

A denim jacket drawn on like a page

The back of a pale bleached blue denim jacket, worn, covered in fine dark line drawings scattered across the shoulders and body
Close on the back of the jacket: a figure throwing off rays, a plant, small framed boxes and an eye drawn in fine dark line over bleached blooms
Close enough to read one: a figure, throwing off rays.

Blue denim bleached until the colour breaks into pale blooms, like weather seen from above, and then drawn on in fine dark line: a figure throwing off rays, a plant, an eye, small framed boxes with something inside each one, tools that do not exist.

The shoulder and sleeve of the jacket, drawings running down the arm
They run down the sleeve too. Nothing repeats.

The marks are the same ones that fill the black books and the five-metre panel. They are not arranged as a print or a pattern. They sit where a hand put them, scattered across the back, running down a sleeve, tucked beside a pocket — the way notes land on a page rather than the way a motif repeats on cloth.

The jacket worn and buttoned, seen from the front, drawings across the chest and pockets
Worn, from the front.

Which is what the name is for. CARNET is a notebook, in Romanian and in French. This is one you can put on.
