WEARABLES 2020

Bucket hats and denim jackets, each one finished by hand, one at a time. A hat dyed deep red with thick white paint pressed into the twill in small clusters. Another left white, carrying a handful of black and red marks. A denim jacket dyed red and charcoal and drawn over in black line. A second with the indigo lifted out of it in cloud shapes, small eyes inked into the pale gaps. An orange work shirt with a painted panel sewn flat onto the back. The method is the paper method moved onto cloth. Colour goes down, some of it is taken back out, and the line goes last. Each piece is a single garment rather than a run, so nothing is repeated and nothing is corrected. Made across two weeks in May 2020, under his own title — YOUR JACKET MY CANVAS. It is where the drawings first leave the sheet and become something worn, two years ahead of the 3D-printed footwear. That November they went to Espronceda with the rest of the show. One denim jacket hung lit on a rail with its matching hat above it, its whole surface covered in fine cream line — the closest these garments come to being hung as paintings. The cloud jacket was not on the rail. He wore it.
